Congresswoman Lucy McBath (GA 6th District) has written a letter to her deceased son, Jordan Davis who was shot and killed in 2012 following an argument at a gas station in Florida about loud music.

Today marks seven years after my son, Jordan, was shot for playing his music.

This is always the hardest day of the year for me. So this year, I want to share a letter I wrote to my son.

Dear Jordan:

Seven years ago today, it was Black Friday in 2012. I was relaxing with our family at home after Thanksgiving.

That afternoon, you were headed to the mall to buy presents for your friends.

You and your friends were at a gas station, putting gas into your car.

Without warning, a man confronted you and opened fire. He shot 10 rounds into the car, and sped away.

I didn’t get to hug and kiss you goodbye. You were 17 years old. My heart is still broken.

In the aftermath of your death, I did not know how to deal with my grief.

I prayed for guidance to find a new path forward.

Then, I knew what I had to do. I knew what WE had to do.

We would fight to make sure no other families would have to suffer this pain.

Jordan, I want you to know I am working to carry out your legacy.

We thought you would one day fight for change -- and now, together, we are carrying out that vision.

Seven years later, you still inspire me every single day. I miss you. I love you so much.

HBO Acquires ‘3 1/2 Minutes’ Doc on Jordan Davis Shooting

[SOURCE] HBO has licensed U.S. television rights to director Marc Silver’s “3 1/2 Minutes,” following its premiere in documentary competition at the Sundance Film Festival.

The film centers on the 2012 shooting death of black teenager Jordan Davis at a Florida gas station and the subsequent trial of his killer, Michael Dunn.

HBO will air the film in the fall after its theatrical release.

“3 1/2″ Minutes” is a production of the Filmmaker Fund / Motto Pictures, in association with Lakehouse Films and Actual Films. Producers are Carolyn Hepburn and Minette Nelson. Executive producers are Orlando Bagwell, Bonni Cohen, Julie Goldman and Participant Media’s Jeff Skoll and Diane Weyermann.

Michael Dunn guilty of first-degree murder for killing Jordan Davis

Michael Dunn was found guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder for killing 17-year-old Jordan Davis on Nov. 23, 2012, in a dispute over loud music outside a Gate gas station.

Dunn, 47, faces life in prison without parole when he's sentenced. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Dunn showed no emotion when the verdict was read.

The jury that heard Dunn's first trial in February found him guilty of three counts of attempted murder and firing into an occupied vehicle related to the three other teens in the SUV, but a mistrial was declared on the first-degree murder charge when the jury remained deadlocked after 30 hours of deliberations.

Sharpton Leads March Over 'Stand Your Ground' Law

The Rev. Al Sharpton led several hundred people on a march Monday to the state Capitol, where they rallied against Florida's "stand your ground" law.

Among those present were the parents of slain teenager Trayvon Martin and the family of Marissa Alexander, who was sentenced to 20 years for firing a gun near her estranged husband. The crowd rallied on the Capitol steps across from Florida's Supreme Court.

"To have laws that tell people that they can shoot first and then ask questions later is a violation of our civil rights. I believe that law is inherently wrong," Sharpton said before the march began. "The law in effect says based on your imagination — if you imagine I'm a threat — you have the right to kill me."

Sharpton called Florida "ground zero" for the fight against 'stand your ground.'
