PEOPLE’S ORGANIZATION FOR PROGRESS ENDORSES CONGRESSWOMAN SHERRILL FOR GOVERNOR

A VICTORY FOR SHERRILL IS A DEFEAT FOR TRUMP

The People’s Organization For Progress (POP) has publicly announced its endorsement of Democratic candidate Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill,  for governor in the November 4th general election.

“A victory for Sherrill is a defeat for Trump.  A victory for Ciattarelli is a victory Trump,” Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress stated.

“President Trump endorsed and supported Ciattarelli during the primary and general election campaigns. Ciattarelli has stated repeatedly that he supports Trump,” Hamm said.

“Ciattarelli is not just the Republican candidate. He is Trump’s candidate, and the MAGA movement’s candidate in this race,” he said.

“Ciattarelli is Trump’s man in this contest. A vote for Jack Ciattarelli is a vote for Donald Trump. If Ciattarelli wins President Trump will be on television claiming the victory,” Hamm said.

“The racist, fascist, anti-democratic and imperialist policies of the Trump administration are hurting working people, the poor, middle class, black people, and other people of color who make up the majority of Americans.

“Trump is not only hurting the people. He is undermining democracy at every turn and trying to make himself a dictator. Asked how Trump was doing Ciattarelli said he would give him an ‘A.’

“Trump’s grip on our government must be broken. Trump must go. He must be removed from office either by way of the ballot box or whatever constitutional means are available.

“However, Trump does not want to go. He and his Republican based MAGA movement want to remain in power for as long as possible. They speak openly of giving Trump a third term as president when the constitution clearly states that a president can only serve two terms,” he said

Hamm said Trump and the MAGA Republicans have a strategy for staying in power, and winning New Jersey’s gubernatorial election is part of that strategy.

He said that there were only two gubernatorial races for governor this year, those in New Jersey and Virginia, and both races are a bellwether for the upcoming midterm elections.

If Republicans win either one or both of these elections it will give them needed momentum to hold on to their majorities in the 2026 House and Senate elections, and give them an advantage in the 2028 presidential election.

“A Ciattarelli victory for governor will make Trump and his MAGA Republicans stronger. A defeat will make them weaker,” he said.

“The People’s Organization For Progress has endorsed Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for governor because we believe that among the candidates who have a chance of winning the race for governor that she is best choice,” Hamm stated.

“Our endorsement does not mean that we have agreed with Sherrill on every issue. However, between Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli we believe Sherrill is the better choice and we urge people to vote for her. And we will work to hold her accountable if she is elected,” he said.

Polls show that the race for governor is very close. Democrats outnumber Republicans in the state. A Republican victory is possible if enough Democrats decide not to vote. New Jersey has had Republican governors before.

“We need a big voter turnout to win this election. Please do not sit this election out or take it for granted that Sherrill is going to win. Every vote counts. And a single vote could be the difference between victory and defeat. Cast your ballot and make your vote count.

“The People’s Organization For Progress urges every registered voter to cast their ballot in this election. Early voting began Saturday October 25 and will continue through Sunday, November 2. If you don’t vote early then make sure you vote on Election Day, November 4th,” he said.

Black Men Vote PAC Endorses Rep. Mikie Sherrill for Governor, Dr. Dale Caldwell for Lt. Governor in New Jersey

Today, Black Men Vote PAC, a national organization committed to moving Black men from the political margins to the center of American democracy,  announced its endorsement of Representative Mikie Sherrill for Governor and Dr. Dale Caldwell for Lt. Governor of New Jersey.

“We are proud to endorse Mikie Sherrill and Dale Caldwell for Governor and Lt. Governor of New Jersey,” said Michael Bland, Black Men Vote PAC Executive Director. “Representative Sherrill has made it her mission to put forward an agenda that lifts all New Jersey residents and speaks directly to the realities Black communities face every day.  From the cost of living and affordable housing to education, justice, and opportunity, Mikie Sherrill and Dale Caldwell will advance policies that strengthen families, open doors for our young people, and make government work for everyone. Black Men Vote PAC supports leaders who fight for our priorities, who believe in jobs, justice, and opportunity for Black men and our communities. Representative Sherrill and Dr. Caldwell have demonstrated time and time again that they are exactly those kinds of leaders.”

Representative Sherrill said she welcomed the endorsement and lauded Black Men Vote PAC for its work to elevate and engage Black men in all aspects of the state and national policy and electoral process.

“I am honored to have the support of Black Men Vote as we fight to lower costs, build opportunity, and expand economic development in communities throughout the state,” said Representative Mikie Sherrill. “In the Sherrill-Caldwell administration, we’re going to tackle systemic issues with thoughtful partnerships and real action. From raising taxes to cutting school funding and even defending school segregation, my opponents’ agenda will threaten the livelihoods and safety of Black communities across the state. At the end of the day, Jack only has room for one voice at his table — President Trump’s.”

Dr. Dale Caldwell expressed gratitude for the endorsement and support for BMV PAC’s work.

““It's an honor to be endorsed by Black Men Vote,” said Dr. Dale Caldwell. “We know it’s become too hard for Black New Jerseyans to get by. That’s why Mikie and I are working to drive a different type of leadership in New Jersey. We are laser focused on building a more affordable Garden State by closing the wealth gap by expanding first-time homebuyer support, making it easier for entrepreneurs to start and grow a small business, and improving third-grade literacy rates. Together, we will drive investment into our communities to build opportunity so every New Jerseyan can live, work, and retire with dignity.”

BMV PAC’s endorsement is part of its broader mission to empower Black men to use their collective voice to shape the future. BMV PAC mobilizes voters through grassroots organizing, digital outreach, and voter education initiatives year-round and across the country.

NO KINGS PROTEST IN NEWARK, NJ OCTOBER 16TH

A No Kings II March And Rally to protest policies of the Trump administration will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, 1:00pm, at the Lincoln Statue, 12 Springfield Avenue, in Newark, New Jersey.

The purpose of this protest is to demonstrate continued opposition to
President Trump’s anti-democratic policies. “Trump was elected president but he is trying to be a king,” Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress stated.

“The United States is supposed to be a democracy not a monarchy. Trump is trying to make himself a dictator. He wants to be emperor over an American empire. We don’t want a dictatorship. We want democracy,” Hamm stated.

“What Trump has been doing since his return to office is an extension of his attempted January 6, 2021 coup. We will be marching to oppose his corrupt fascist, racist and imperialist policies,” Hamm said.

The event is sponsored by the People’s Organization For Progress (POP) and a coalition of organizations which it is a part of that held the Martin Luther King People’s Convention for Justice and Resistance in April.

The demonstration will begin with a rally at the Lincoln Statue. Following the rally protesters marched will march to the Federal Building, 970 Broad Street and then back to the Lincoln Statue where there will be a closing rally.

The No Kings II March & Rally is one of many being organized across the country. Millions of people are expected to participate in protests taking place in more than 2100 cities and towns. The first wave No Kings protests took place in June.

“In violation of the Constitution, the law, and orders by federal judges Trump has put troops in our cities for no valid reason. Trump’s “gestapo” masked ICE agents are intimidating people, violating their constitutional rights and legal rights, brutalizing them, kidnapping people off the streets, disappearing them to parts unknown, and killing them,” Hamm said.

“He is attempting to outlaw free speech and criticism of his regime. Trump is attempting to criminalize his opposition and has weaponized the criminal justice system to persecute and prosecute his political enemies,” Hamm said.

He said that Trump has threatened to have mayors, Congress people, judges and even governors who oppose his policies arrested. That he is trying to exercise control over what is taught at colleges and universities, bullying the media through law suits and political pressure into being his mouthpiece, and has had celebrities who have been critical of him removed from their television shows.

“His administration has forced colleges and universities, government agencies and private businesses to cancel Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs. He has supported efforts to weaken the Voting Rights Act, and bolster voter suppression, and gerrymandering. He has shut down the data base on bad cops at the Justice Department and blocked all other initiatives for police reform,” Hamm said.

“Trump has ordered the African American Museum in Washington DCand other agencies to purge content that does not fit with his white supremacist narrative of history. He has reinstalled monuments to racist, slavery supporting Confederate traitors that had been removed and reimposed the names of Confederate generals on military bases,” he said.

Hamm said that the Trump administration’s economic policies have led to the layoff of hundreds of thousands workers. This includes 318,000 black women in the last quarter. And the tariffs imposed by Trump have contributed to a rise in consumer prices that have hurt working and poor families.

Also, as many as 15 million people may lose their health care coverage because of his cuts to Medicaid and failure to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies. These cuts are going to cause the cost of health care insurance to double, triple, even quadruple for 20 million more. It is also going to cause some hospitals and clinics in urban and rural areas across the country to close.

Hamm said Trump’s refusal to compromise on his proposed budget cuts has caused a government shutdown which may trigger more government worker layoffs. He has done all this while using his office and the government to enrich himself and his family in violation of the emoluments clause of the constitution.

“While increasing oppression at home he has been fomenting war abroad. Trump has continued to arm Israel in its genocidal war against the Palestinians. He is threatening war against Venezuela and other countries,” Hamm said.

“In violation of United Nations conventions and international law he has attacked and killed civilians on boats in the Caribbean. The foreign policies of his administration continue to perpetuate genocide in Sudan and Congo, and catastrophe in Haiti. For all of the aforementioned reasons and many others Trump must go,” he said.
