Jamaican swimmer Alia Atkinson becomes first black woman to win world title

Alia Atkinson became the first black woman to win a world swimming title when she triumphed in the 100m breaststroke at the world short-course championships in Doha on Saturday as more records tumbled.

Jamaican Atkinson, 25, claimed the title and equalled Ruta Meilutyte's world record of 1min 02.36sec in the process - although under governing body FINA rules this still equates to a new record.

Meilutyte appeared on course for a successful defence of her title only for her rival to move on to the Lithuanian's shoulder at the final turn.

Atkinson then clawed her way down the final length before out-touching the 17-year-old by 0.10sec.

Antoine Fuqua has his first 100 million dollar grossing film, The Equalizer

Successful African American director Antoine Fuqua who has directed box office successes such as Training Day and Olympus has Fallen, has his first 100 million dollar grossing film with The Equalizer. To date the film has grossed $100,147,595 domestically. The film has also made $90,800,000 on the international front.

The film stars Denzel Washington which no doubt helped its box office fortunes. But as he has shown with Olympus has Fallen Fuqua is a great action director so he deserves a lot of the credit here. Congrats to Mr. Fuqua.

Mr. Fuqua's next film is Southpaw. The film focuses on a boxer who fights his way to the top, only to find his life falling apart around him. The film stars Forest Whittaker, Naomi Harris, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

President Obama visits hospital due to sore throat.

[SOURCE] President Barack Obama made a quick visit to the hospital Saturday to have diagnostic tests for a sore throat. Obama's physician, Dr. Ronny Jackson, said a preliminary exam on Obama's throat showed swelling, and the results of a subsequent CT scan were normal. "The president's symptoms are consistent with soft tissue inflammation related to acid reflux and will be treated accordingly," Jackson said.

The president's trip to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, was suggested by Jackson, said White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest. Jackson recommended that the president get the tests done Saturday because he had a gap in his schedule, not because he considered the situation to be urgent, Earnest said. Obama spent about a half-hour inside the medical center.

And instead of calling for help for the dying man, Liang was texting his union representative. What's more, the sources said, the pair of officers weren't supposed to be patrolling the stairways of the Pink Houses that night.
