Steve Harvey's ratings tank after Trump meeting

Steve Harvey's ratings for his new talk show Steve have been tanking due to his meeting with Donald Trump in January.The comedian's black supporters criticized the meeting but Harvey failed to properly address the backlash, resulting in poor ratings for his programs.

Steve Harvey is attempting to save his new talk show by distancing himself from President Trump after his ratings took a hit due to fallout for taking a meeting with Trump in January.

The 60-year-old relaunched his daytime show when his previous program was set to be canceled because the host refused to sign his contract because he wasn't getting a raise and couldn't move his show to Los Angeles.

As a result, Harvey's talent agency decided to launch a new show, simply retitled Steve, for the comic based in Hollywood in an effort to keep the show going.

The retooled show premiered on September 5 after a few months of preparation, and both ratings and reviews for the program have been less than stellar.

Sources close to the production told DailyMail.com they believe the poor numbers reflect a fallout from Harvey's black audience after he met with Trump in January.

Now Harvey is turning on the president in a desperate bid to save his show, recently proclaiming on his radio show: 'Meeting with Donald Trump was the worst mistake of my life.'

Harvey faced tremendous backlash from his TV and radio fans when he paid a visit to Trump Tower in New York City to meet with Donald Trump in January

African-Americans were outraged by the images of Harvey being chummy with the then-President Elect and many called for boycotts against the comic.

Harvey was dismissive and defiant despite the backlash and lashed out at fans for challenging his decision.

The source said: 'This is the moment his brand took a hit. He had been through a few scandals before - the divorces, the Miss Universe Pageant and the Asian joke gone bad - but he had never faced the wrath of his core audience before, middle-aged African Americans.

'And unfortunately for Steve, he was too arrogant to realize the weight of his mistake and never made amends to his loyal followers for it.'

Since then, the ratings for Harvey's game show Family Feud took a dip and the audience for his variety show Little Big Shots dropped almost by half.

But it wasn't until the ratings for his revamped talk show started suffering did Harvey acknowledge his glaring Trump error.

Steve Harvey's wife advised him not to meet with Trump

It seems that everyone's favorite TV/radio/game show host has the same problem many married men do, he doesn't listen to his wife, although in Steve's defense he may have lost track of who his current wife is. She advised him not to go to the ill fated meeting with Trump at Trump Towers, but instead of listening to her, Harvey decided to listen to his inner Uncle Ruckus. We all know how badly things went for Harvey after that meeting and in an article in the Hollywood Reporter Harvey discusses the aftermath. He discusses ignoring his wife's advice, meetings with Ben Carson, and the fact that he is STILL surprised by the backlash from the black community that he received.

On ignoring his wife's advice:

Now, here's the crazy thing: I'm supposed to be on a boat for my 60th birthday, so my wife says, "Steve, just take off [and skip the meeting]. You'll meet with him some other time." God, I should've listened.

On the backlash:

The backlash. It was so vicious that it really threw me. I was being called names that I've never been called: Uncle Tom. A coon. A sellout. Because I went to see this man?! Which only happened because my business partner got a call from the Obama transition team, who said that the Trump transition team would like to set up a meeting. The Obama team said they thought it would be a good idea because the president is encouraging dialogue.

On meetings with Ben Carson:

I've been to HUD twice. I've met with Dr. Carson and we're actually trying to get it started. We've had meetings, and now we're just waiting on the final notes. We have several teams in place. Hopefully before the year goes out, we'll be making the announcement about the first vision center.

No mentions of civil rights, voting rights, or education on updated Trump White House site.

Donald Trump has made many statements about what he would do for African Americans if elected. He said that he would do such an excellent job of making the lives of African Americans better that in four years they would vote for him in record numbers. He even staged a dog, and pony shows with the likes of Ray Lewis, Steve Harvey, and Martin Luther King III to show how much he cared them. He promised many things, but the updated White House website reflects none of that.

There are no mentions of civil rights, voting rights, housing, or education under the issues tab. This is what comes up today on 01/22/2017:

Not that some of those issues are not important to the country as a whole, but it's very telling that the civil rights tab that used to be there has been moved. That shows that this issue is not important to Trump and that he has and only will pay lip service to it.

When it comes to housing not being mentioned Trump's appointment of Ben Carson as leader of HUD lets us know all that we need to know about how important Trump feels this issue is.

Also an ominous sign for African Americans is where Trump promises to stand up for our law enforcement community. What does he mean by that? He has already nominated a man to be U.S. Attorney General who is no fan federal investigations in police forces across the nation. He has also spoken in favor of the "policing" policy known as stop & frisk which catches very few criminals and only works to even further alienate the police from the community. Will Trump support bad cops such as Micheal Slager who shot an unarmed man to death as he ran away from him?

The updated site also does not mention of education at all which should be a major issue to all regardless of race. That's not on the site because then Trump would have to show the cuts he plans to make to education that would overwhelmingly affect black and brown students as well as hurt black colleges like Talladega College that marched in Trump's inaugural parade.

As for voting rights I didn't expect anything to be there because if many of these bogus voting laws had been struck down, you can make an argument that Trump would not be president. Why allow people to vote who would not enable you to remain in power four years from now?

Steve Harvey and Armstrong Williams have asked black people to wait and see what Trump does. Well if the updated website is any indication he is not going to do much.

The Congressional Black Caucus should boycott Trump's inauguration

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus should follow the lead of civil rights icon and Georgia congressman John Lewis and not attend Donald Trump's inauguration.

Trump is using Steve Harvey to legitimize Ben Carson in the black community.

In a move that surprised many Steve Harvey has met with Donald Trump to discuss issues in the black community. I believe Trump plans to use Steve Harvey to legitimize Ben Carson in the black community. Harvey may believe he is doing the right thing and may mean well but is misguided on this one. Well I hope that's the case and he hasn't sold out. Listen to more of my thoughts below.

Who had a worse weekend: Odell Beckham or Steve Harvey

Wow what a weekend to come off like a jackass in both sports and entertainment. NY Giants star receiver Odell Beckham came off like a complete fool with his actions against Carolina Panther, Josh Norman. Beckham got three unsportsmanlike penalties costing his team 45 yards with one penalty being for a nasty helmet to helmet hit to Norman's head. His actions and inability to focus on the game cost his team the game. Beckham has been suspended for one game for acting stupid. Watch the head to head hit below.

Then there's talk show/game show/radio show host Steve Harvey and his screw up at the Miss Universe pageant in which he announced the wrong person winning. Harvey announced Miss Columbia when he should have announced Miss Philippines. They gave Miss Columbia the crown, the roses, the whole winner treatment only to have to take it back from her and give it to the actual winner. Steve Harvey quickly apologized but the damage was done. Now Steve wont get suspended like Beckham but about 6 million people saw the screw up live and millions more have watched online. Pres. Obama: Democratic Voters ‘Aren’t Even Thinking’ About Midterms

[ SOURCE: THE HILL] A “whole bunch” of Democratic voters “aren’t even thinking about these elections coming up,” President Obama fretted during an interview with radio host Steve Harvey on Wednesday.

“We really need to have the kind of Congress that is serious about the issues that matter to folks and the responsibility is ultimately on everybody who’s listening,” Obama said. “Folks like to complain, talk about Washington — if only 45, 40 percent of the people are voting, it’s not surprising Congress isn’t responsive.”

Obama’s appearance on the show, which has a heavily black audience, came as the White House began accelerating its campaign efforts ahead of the midterm elections.

Obama repeatedly implored the radio audience “to really pay attention to this thing.”

“I need everybody listening to understand this is really, really important,” Obama said. “I need everybody’s help. This is the last election I’m involved in that really makes a difference.”

He added, “African-American voters, young voters, progressive voters, Latino voters — they now vote at relatively high rates during presidential elections,” but as a result of their failure to show up in 2010, “the Tea Party took over the Republican Party.”

“This election coming up gives everybody out there the ability to change Congress. … I’ve got to have a Congress that can work with me,” Obama added. “That is why this midterm is so important.”
