Street outside Trayvon Martin's high school to be named after him

A road in Miami will be named after Trayvon Martin, the teenager whose shooting death in 2012 sparked a national outcry. A portion of the street leading to Martin's former school, Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High, will be renamed in his honor, the Miami Herald reports.

Martin was in 11th grade when he was fatally shot by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman was acquitted under Florida's controversial self-defense law. The Black Lives Matter movement emerged after a Florida jury decided to clear Zimmerman in the shooting death in July 2013.

More than eight years after Martin was killed, commissioners in Miami-Dade County approved the street renaming. By the end of the year, part of Northeast 16th Avenue will be renamed after Martin, according to a resolution from County Attorney Abigail Price-Williams.

The road will be renamed "Travyon Martin Avenue," according to the memorandum. Martin "was a typical teenager who enjoyed playing video games, listening to music, watching movies, and talking and texting on the phone," the resolution reads.

Prosecutor In Trayvon Martin/ Cases Loses Primary

Controversial Florida state attorney Angela Corey lost her primary bid to fellow Republican Melissa Nelson, Tuesday night. Nelson garnered 64% of the vote compared to Corey's 26%

Corey is known to many as the prosecutor who tried to prosecute Zimmerman for the second-degree murder of Trayvon Martin and sought a 60-year prison sentence for Marissa Alexander after she fired a shot in the direction of her abusive husband.

Each case generated international attention, with many saying Corey overcharged or sought excessive sentences.

And the criticism came from across the political spectrum, with top conservatives criticizing her for her unsuccessful prosecution of Zimmerman, civil rights and women’s rights activists attacking her for Alexander and juvenile rights activists criticizing Corey for her actions with Fernandez and blasting her propensity to charge juveniles in adult court.

Study: Prejudice makes us see innocent people as threats

The police killings of unarmed black men like Eric Garner, Michael Brown and, most recently, Sam Dubose at a July 19 traffic stop at the University of Cincinnati, have enraged many and baffled more. Why did Cleveland police shoot and kill 12-year-old Tamir Rice last year? How did self-styled block watch patrolman George Zimmerman decide to shoot and kill teenager Trayvon Martin, who was armed with nothing but a bag of candy on that night in 2012? These outrages have caused demonstrations, urban unrest, more violence and a larger sense that something has gone wrong in the nation’s race relations.

Besides outright racism, what motivates the overreaction of law-enforcement and vigilantes who have left these men dead?

A social psychologist at Wellesley College who studies diversity and friendship, Angela Bahns, has recently completed research that helps to explain part of the puzzle: It shows that people can imagine a sense of threat — a threat serious enough to justify violence — even with no real evidence besides their own stereotypes. And the stereotypes, the research suggests, are the root causes of the violence.

Pres. Obama marks 3rd anniversary of Trayvon Martin's death

[SOURCE] President Obama on Thursday commemorated the third anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old black high school student shot dead in Florida by a neighborhood watch volunteer.

“Today on the third anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death, showing all of our kids, all of them, every single day, that their lives matter — that’s part of our task,” Obama said during a White House reception for Black History Month that was attended by Martin's parents.

“Progress in this nation happens only because seemingly ordinary people find the courage to stand up for what is right, not just when it’s easy but when it’s hard,” Obama said.

George Zimmerman Will Not Face Federal Charges in Death of Trayvon Martin

While the public waits for a Justice Department announcement over two separate investigations spurred by the summer shooting of an unarmed teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, the department announced today it is closing its investigation into the killing of Trayvon Martin.

Justice Department officials met with Martin's family today, and were told that they will not be filing charges against George Zimmerman, who shot the 17-year-old after a confrontation in 2012. Thursday marks three years to the day since Martin was killed.

Federal prosecutors concluded there is not sufficient evidence to prove Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman in Sanford, Fla., intentionally violated Martin's civil rights.

Medical examiner in Trayvon Martin case says prosecutors wanted to lose the case.

[SOURCE] Dr. Shiping Bao was the medical examiner who did the autopsy on Trayvon Martin’s body, and he was one of the state’s main expert witnesses at last year’s George Zimmerman trial.

The Seminole/Volusia County Medical Examiner’s office fired Dr. Bao one month after the trial. Now, in a new 37-page book, called “Dead Men Can’t Lie,” Dr. Bao said he wants to set the record straight. He claims Sanford Police didn’t properly preserve evidence.

He writes:

“... I was purposely not given the chance to present some extremely important evidence that could very well have affected the outcome.”

Bao also claims the prosecution used him as a scapegoat in the case against George Zimmerman, writing:

“Looking back, it is obvious to me that the prosecuting attorney’s office hoped to lose the case.”

You can read more of Bao's accusations by checking his book out at Smashwords.

In his book "Dead Men Can't Lie," Dr. Shiping Bao talks openly and in a no-holds-barred manner about a number of major issues surrounding the George Zimmerman trial and the case of Marlon Brown. Dr. Bao is the Medical Examiner who performed the autopsies on both Trayvon Martin and Marlon Brown, two very high-profile and controversial cases still in the media. His revelations and insights provide thought-provoking and sometimes shocking commentary that any reader acquainted with these two cases will be sure to find fascinating.

Rachel Jeantel graduates high school, keeps promise to Trayvon Martin.

[SOURCE] The teenage girl who was talking to Trayvon Martin on the phone when he was shot to death in 2012 graduated high school Friday, keeping a promise she made to the slain teen about finishing school.

Rachel Jeantel graduated from high school at a Miami auditorium despite her difficulties with English being showcased in the very public trial of George Zimmerman, the man who says he shot Martin in self defense, Yahoo News reported.

Though she was a senior in high school, Jeantel had an elementary-level understanding of reading and math, so Miami defense and civil rights attorney Rod Vereen arranged for tutors for the young woman.

"I did it," Jeantel said of her accomplishment. "The witness who didn't know how to speak English knows how to speak English through the 12th grade now. I never quit."

Even Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, was at the graduation ceremony, cheering on her son's friend.

"Her coming is like having Trayvon there saying, 'You did it. You proved people wrong,' " Jeantel said.

Kobe Bryant is a hypocrite for his comments on Miami Heat supporting Trayvon Martin

I'm going to be very honest with you. When I first read Kobe Bryant's comments on the Miami Heat photo in support of Trayvon Martin and his family my first thought was something real profound and thoughtful. F*CK KOBE!

I was mad because Kobe should know that the photo of the Miami Heat was taken when the public was asking that George ( I beat women ) Zimmerman be arrested. The photo was not taken after the verdict in the case. The Heat were only asking for due process to take place not saying that Zimmerman was guilty. And unlike Kobe they were taking a public stand on a social situation which Kobe would never due for fear of f*cking up his money.

Here's what Kobe said:

I won’t react to something just because I’m supposed to, because I’m an African-American,” he said. “That argument doesn’t make any sense to me. So we want to advance as a society and a culture, but, say, if something happens to an African-American we immediately come to his defense? Yet you want to talk about how far we’ve progressed as a society? Well, we’ve progressed as a society, then don’t jump to somebody’s defense just because they’re African-American. You sit and you listen to the facts just like you would in any other situation, right? So I won’t assert myself.”

Now Kobe is entitled to his opinion but he should think before he opens his mouth. You see it seems that Kobe has forgotten his own little rape case back in 2003. When he was accused of rape in Colorado many people rushed to his defense. In truth many didn't know if he was innocent or guilty but many thought the rape charges were an attempt to railroad him as a black man.

Now understand something. Kobe was never that big in the African American community because he came off like an a**hole that would sell you out first opportunity he got ( see Shaq ). And even with that many African American's still rushed to his defense.

I guess that Kobe has forgotten that. I didn't hear him telling African Americans to get their facts first before defending him. He ran "home" again just like OJ Simpson and Michael Jackson did when they got in trouble.

This makes Kobe Bryant a hypocrite. So that brings me back to my original thought after reading Kobe's comments.

F*CK KOBE!

Sharpton Leads March Over 'Stand Your Ground' Law

The Rev. Al Sharpton led several hundred people on a march Monday to the state Capitol, where they rallied against Florida's "stand your ground" law.

Among those present were the parents of slain teenager Trayvon Martin and the family of Marissa Alexander, who was sentenced to 20 years for firing a gun near her estranged husband. The crowd rallied on the Capitol steps across from Florida's Supreme Court.

"To have laws that tell people that they can shoot first and then ask questions later is a violation of our civil rights. I believe that law is inherently wrong," Sharpton said before the march began. "The law in effect says based on your imagination — if you imagine I'm a threat — you have the right to kill me."

Sharpton called Florida "ground zero" for the fight against 'stand your ground.'

Why Florida's Stand Your Ground laws make it a great place for punks to live. (ad campaign)

Hi all, this is George Cook of AAreports.com. Recently there has been a spate of Stand Your Ground cases in Florida that have gained national attention. The most recent being the tragic Michael Dunn murder case. I decided to investigate why all these cases seem to take place in the Sunshine State. I reached out to the best investigative team I could find. That's right, Bill O'Rielly's mythical investigative team. But they do exist. I have a picture below to prove it.

BILL O'RIELLY INVESTIGATIVE TEAM

This crack team of investigators hasn't really uncovered a reason for all of the shootings yet. But they have uncovered a draft of a planned tourism ad campaign. I have decided to share the startling script for a commercial planned for the ad campaign with you.

Why Florida's Stand Your Ground laws make it a great place for punks to live.

Older distinguished looked white gentleman in Hawaiian shirt facing camera: ( George Zimmerman not available as he has been arrested again on domestic abuse charges )

Spokesman: Having trouble planning your next vacation?

Spokesman: Well let me ask you six questions.

Spokesman: Are you a gun owner? Do you like shooting defenseless people? Are you a punk who is scared of his own shadow? Is the only thing that you can beat is your meat? Speaking of meat, do you have a little dick? Do you like to start trouble even though you are incapable of defending yourself?

Spokesman: If the answer to all of those questions is yes then Florida is for you. With our Stand Your Ground laws you can start as much shit as you want, kill the person that you started the altercation with, and be let off by one of our well meaning but obviously confused juries.

Spokesman: No really, that's how it works. We prefer that you shoot the blacks but we know at times that others will have to be shot in the name of your weakened manhood ( i.e. your little dick ). Also please make sure to kill your innocent victim as this makes things easier during your trial. Survivors equals jail time. And don't worry if you don't own a gun with our liberal gun laws as long as you can fog up a mirror and promise to take any meds you are on you can own the firearm of your dreams.

Spokesman hold up his arms

Spokesman: So what are you waiting for? Get your punk ass on down here to Florida. The shooting is plentiful and the laws suck. Just call 1-888-kil-them for more information and affordable travel plans. Again call 1-888-kil-them. We'll be waiting for you.

Spokesman: Oh and one last thing. We apologize but shooting people at Disney World is prohibited as the happiest place on Earth has some issues with that sort of thing.

END

I was shocked. No really how could they not get George Zimmerman for this ad campaign? But anyway this is all we have dug up for now but as the crack investigative team uncovers more I will report it to you.
