NAACP calls for officers in NJ mall fight video to be disciplined

The NAACP NJ State Conference is asking for the officers to be disciplined based on the controversial actions the two Bridgewater police officers took while breaking up a fight between two teenagers, one Black and one white at a mall.

Video of the incident shows both teens involved in the fight inside the Bridgewater Commons Mall, but when the officers arrive, the Black teen is pinned on the ground with a knee in his back and handcuffed, while the white teen sits on a couch.

FBI investigating bomb threats at HBCUs

Federal authorities said they are investigating numerous bomb threats at Carolina-based historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

In a statement to NBC affiliate WRAL, FBI spokesperson Shelley Lynch confirmed that the Bureau is investigating these new cases at Fayetteville State University and at Clafin University located in North and South Carolina, respectively.

"The FBI takes all threats seriously, and we are committed to thoroughly and aggressively investigating these threats. We would like to remind members of the public that if they observe anything suspicious or have information about potential threats to report it to law enforcement immediately, call 1-800-CALL FBI or submit a tip to tips.fbi.gov," Lynch said in a statement.

Loretta Lunch hired to defend the NFL to fight Brian Flores lawsuit

The National Football League has hired former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to defend it in a high-profile race discrimination case filed earlier this month by former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores.

Lynch, a partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, is working with the law firm’s chairman Brad Karp on the litigation, according to four sources familiar with the situation.

Lynch has a legal history with the NFL.

She was tapped by the New York-based NFL in late 2020 to work on an inquiry into claims of misconduct involving owners of what was then called the Washington Football Team.

FAMU student’s designs hit Target, JCPenney for Black History Month

After taking a chance and entering her first two design competitions, Florida A&M University student Kah’Milah Ledgester has struck gold on a national scale.

Ledgester, a senior graphic design student, was chosen as one of three winners for Target's 2021 HBCU design contest and one of two national winners for JCPenney’s Young, Gifted and Black design challenge.

She was notified of the selections last spring that her designs would be featured during Black History Month of 2022.

“I always get a little excited because of the fact that I did the Target challenge, and I also did JCPenney and won both of them. It made me feel very good because I took a chance,” said Ledgester, native of Adel, Georgia.
