Brazile says she considered swapping Clinton for Biden as 2016 nominee

Donna Brazile, the former interim chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), says she contemplated removing Hillary Clinton as the party's presidential nominee in 2016 and replacing her with then-Vice President Joe Biden.

In a section of her upcoming memoir, reported Saturday by The Washington Post, Brazile recalled how she considered using her power as the DNC's interim chairwoman to install candidates more likely to energize working-class voters. 

The presidential candidate she settled on, according to the Post, was Biden, with Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) as his running mate.But she ultimately decided against such a shake-up, saying that she felt that she could not upend the campaign of the first woman presidential nominee of a major political party. 

“I thought of Hillary, and all the women in the country who were so proud of and excited about her," she wrote. "I could not do this to them.”

Cory Booker goes to Philadelphia to get the black vote out

Seeking to close off any route for Donald Trump to get the 270 electoral votes he needs to be elected president, U.S. Sen. Cory Booker visited the city of Brotherly Love Saturday to ensure African-Americans went to the polls on Tuesday.

A strong black turnout in Pennsylvania's largest city could cancel Trump votes elsewhere and keep the Keystone State in the Democratic camp, improving Hillary Clinton's chances of becoming the first woman U.S. president.

"This state is going to determine which way our country goes," Booker said.

Booker (D-N.J.) was one of several surrogates of both parties who, like the candidates themselves, are fanning out to battleground states this weekend in advance of Election Day. Gov. Chris Christie originally was scheduled to visit Pennsylvania as well on Saturday, though his appearance was cancelled after two former aides were convicted in the Bridgegate trial.

He visited a black-owned barbershop, where pro-Clinton campaign signs such as "Love trumps hate" and "Stronger together" shared space with posters of the Negro League, Muhammad Ali standing over a fallen Sonny Liston, and Obama. He spoke before a group of blacks who were organizing get-out-the-vote efforts. And he addressed dozens of Clinton supporters at a storefront headquarters.

Booker delivered pep talks, posed for selfies, posted videos on Instagram, and asked those in attendance to give one hour, 48 minutes or even 32 minutes to make calls on Tuesday to ensure that Clinton backers go to the polls.

"This is one of those elections where it's forward or backward," he said at the barbershop. "We need to get our friends and our families out to vote."

Colin Powell is supporting Hillary Clinton

You knew this was going to happen, right? Former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced that he will vote for Hillary Clinton at a luncheon on Tuesday.

Powell made his announcement at a Tuesday event hosted by the Long Island Association, a business group focused on development in Long Island, New York.

The announcement was confirmed by Powell's chief of staff, Peggy Cifrino.

U.S. appeals court finds that Texas voter ID law is discriminatory

A Texas law requiring voters to show a government-issued form of photo identification before casting a ballot is discriminatory and violates the U.S. Voting Rights Act, a U.S. appeals court on Wednesday ruled.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, in a close decision among a special 15-judge panel, also sent the case back to a district court to examine claims by the plaintiffs that the law had a discriminatory purpose.

The New Orleans-based Fifth Circuit, which has a reputation as one of the most conservative federal appeals courts, asked the district court for a short-term fix to be used in Texas in the November general election.

Critics of the law and others like it passed in recent years in Republican-governed states said similar statutes are intended to make it harder for minorities such as African-Americans and Hispanics who tend to back Democrats to vote. Backers of these laws say they are necessary to prevent voter fraud.

The court ruled 9-6 that the law had a discriminatory effect. The judges were divided differently on other parts of the ruling.

"We acknowledge the charged nature of accusations of racism, particularly against a legislative body, but we must also face the sad truth that racism continues to exist in our modern American society despite years of laws designed to eradicate it," the court said.

Challengers of the Texas law say that up to 600,000 people would be unable to vote if the law was fully in effect.

6 Reasons Hillary Clinton will win in November

Many Trump and Sanders supporters believe that Hillary Clinton has no chance at winning in November. They believe in all the negative hype that Clinton detractors have been putting over the decades, and that Trump will not just win, but win easily. That's simply not the case, here are six reasons why she will win and become the first female President of the United States.

1. Hate her or love her, she is simply the most qualified candidate ever to run for president. She has forgotten more about politics and world affairs than Sanders and Trump know combined.

2. She will have the Obama Coalition behind her and with that comes Barack Obama, The Campaigner, and Chief. He is very popular among Democrats and would energize those that sat the primary season out. Many of those supporters want to protect the Obama legacy and trust Clinton to do just that.

3. She will have arguably the greatest group of surrogates ever out there stomping for her campaign. Those surrogates would include President Obama, Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, and Elizabeth Warren. (If Bernie Sanders can stop pouting and come to his senses then he could also be on that list.) That's political star power no matter which one shows up at a rally or on television.

4. She has a superior campaign organization. She has veterans of winning presidential campaigns working for her and has ground games ready to go in toss-up states and important states such as Ohio, Florida, California, New Jersey, and Michigan.

5. She is facing a media personality, not a true candidate. Donald Trump can't help but be Trump, and he will self-implode under the stress of a presidential campaign where everything you do and say is vetted and questioned.His lack of substance will bite him in the ass.

6. Many Republicans simply can't bring themselves to vote for Trump. They will stick to their ideals and principles and take the loss this year so that they can win in 2020. They will not publicly support or endorse Hillary Clinton, but they will vote for her.

So that's my opinion Hilary Clinton will win in November. So what do you think?
